EAN - 13 Number This number is represented by a standard EAN - 13 Bar Code symbol. See Figure 1-1. This method of identifying non-retail items, in particular trade units, can be used if printing conditions permit the successful printing of the EAN - 13 Bar Code symbol. This will depend on the material being printed on and the printing conditions. EAN Prefix Manufacturer Number Item Number Check Digit Identifies the EAN numbering organisation issuing the number. It ensures that all EAN identification numbers in the world are unique. 93 identifies Australia number. A five digit manufacturer number. You receive this number after becoming a member of EAN Australia. A unique, five digit non-significant number for each individual item. See "Item Number" on the previous page for further information. Validates the accuracy of the entire number by mathematical formula. See "Calculating the Check Digit" later in this section for further information. ÜEAN Australia allocates 93 with the manufacturer number. ÜAdd your manufacturer number after 93. ÜAllocate a unique five digit item number. ÜCalculate the check digit.
